Welcome to our first featured travel destination on the bucketlist blog, and what better place to start than right here in our backyard! The beautiful Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
With sprawling, snowcapped mountains, sandy city beaches, and an urban center unlike any other Vancouver is chalked full of exciting and unique adventures just itching to be added to your bucket list!
Located on Canada’s pacific coast, Vancouver’s surrounded by the natural beauty of the coastal mountains. Constantly being named one of the worlds most livable cities, Vancouver has been able to seamlessly blend outdoor living with the cultural perks of any urban sprawl.
Many of you may have fallen in love with this glorious city when it hosted the 2010 Winter Olympics, but there is much more than what the cameras could capture.
We thought we’d spotlight our top ten quintessential Vancouverite activities to create the Ultimate Vancouver Bucket list!
The Vancouver Bucket List
1. Cycle around Stanley Park
Nothing combines the spirit of Vancouver more than cycling around one of the jewels of the city! Stanley park is one of the largest city parks in the world with some of the oldest trees in the world too.
For around $8 you can rent a single or tandem bike to take you around the sea wall. I would recommend going on a nice day, but as you can see from the photo, rainy days have their perks. We had the whole path to ourselves!
2. Hike the Grouse Grind
The grouse grind is a 2.9 km (1.8 mi.) hiking trail from the base of grouse mountain to the top. Once on top of the hill, experience the beauty of the surrounding nature, or maybe take in one of Grouse Mountains infamous lumberjack shows. Although a challenge, you are more than rewarded with the stunning views unlike anywhere else.
3. Eat a Japadog from Japadog
One of the greatest exports from the Olympics, Japadog consists of the fusion of the western hot dog, and traditional Japanese flavours! I highly recommend trying one if you are in the city!
4. Sample Granville Island Beer on Granville Island
The Granville Island Brewery produces some of the finest beer and lager of the region! If of age, go to the brewery on a nice day and take a tour to see how the magic happens.
5. Cross the Capilano Suspension Bridge
One of the scarier items of the list! The current bridge is 140 metres (460 ft) across the Capilano River! If you’re not afraid of heights, this is a great activity for the whole family.
6. Do Yoga on the Beach
Vancouver is the birthplace of Lululemon, so perhaps it is so fitting that yoga has become a local phenomenon. Find your zen on one many gorgeous beaches to choose from,
7. Ski/Snowboard in Whistler
I know Whistler isn’t technically Vancouver, but it was impossible to leave this item off the Vancouver Bucket List. Whistler has some of the best slopes in the world! If you’re an avid skier, don’t miss the opportunity to shred some of the best powder of the season. People from all over the world flock to Whistler to enjoy it’s beauty. And if skiing/boarding isn’t your thing, Whistler Village is the perfect ski town to visit for its charm alone!
8. Go to a Canucks game
I think I would be kicked out of the city if I failed to suggest going to a Canucks game! You won’t be able to resist the overwhelming atmosphere and support the team generates!
9. Surf in Tofino
Again, I know Tofino isn’t in Vancouver, but where else in the world can you ski and surf in the same week, maybe for the adventurous, even in the same day! Located on Vancouver Island, Tofino has been garnered as some of the best waves in the world. Not to mention it’s pretty beautiful to look at!
10. Visit the Otters at the Vancouver Aquarium
Finally a Vancouver Bucket List wouldn’t be complete without a trip to the Aquarium! From jellyfish to whales the aquarium has an abundance of aquatic wildlife to explore. (I’m a sucker for the cute otters holding hands)
